Edmonton’s chief global meteorologist Jesse Beyer said that similar to the freezing rain event in the city nearly two weeks ago, a cold, dry air mass is being replaced by warm, humid air from the Pacific.

“As the Pacific air mass moves further east, it will heat the upper layers enough to produce liquid rain,” Beyer said. “The timing of this precipitation event could cause liquid rain to fall onto a subzero surface and freeze on contact.”
