Police investigate fatal shooting on King Street West in Hamilton – Hamilton | The Canadian News

Hamilton police say a man, probably in his 20s, died after a shooting in broad daylight in a city parking lot.

Detectives say the incident occurred just before 3 p.m. near Tim Horton’s on King Street West in Caroline North.

“We have a man who was a victim of gunshot wounds and died as a result of his injuries,” Det said. Sergeant. Steve Berezuik said during a press on King Street.

Investigators are still working to identify the deceased, who died at the scene.

Berezuik said police do not yet have a description of a suspect so early in the investigation and that the service is interviewing several witnesses who at this time appear to be cooperating.

The detective said it was “fair” to characterize the episode as “directed,” but also said there was still little information at present to corroborate that it was not random.

“This is a daylight shoot, a lot of people are out during the day,” Berezuik said.

“This kind of activity in the middle of the day in a city like this is unacceptable.”

The shooting is the city’s 13th homicide in 2021.

King Street has been closed for an investigation without an estimated reopening time, according to police.

More to come.
