PMA for all: the government wants to reduce waiting times from one year to six months

With the opening of medically assisted procreation (MAP) for all, the government wants to reduce waiting times from one year to six months thanks to a new investment of 8 million euros supposed to meet the influx of requests expected, he announced, Tuesday, September 14.

Parliament voted the PMA at the end of June for all women, whether heterosexual, homosexual or single. The implementing decrees for the law are expected in the coming days.

“There is a considerable influx of requests in the centers”, explained Tuesday the entourage of the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran. “We expected 1,000 additional requests in 2021, we are already more or less around 3,500”. Gold “The minister has made a commitment: to increase the waiting period from one year, on average, to six months for all audiences”, we added from the same source.

A steering committee starting in the fall

To achieve this, the government is announcing a new investment of 8 million euros for the equipment and human resources of the centers until 2023: 4 million from this year, including 2 million for equipment and 2 for staff, then the rest in 2022 and 2023.

The centers had benefited from the first half of 2021 from seed credits (3.3 million) to increase their reception capacity, recalls the Ministry of Health. In order to meet the deadlines, a steering committee will be tasked, starting in the fall, to monitor the way in which the implementation of the new law is going, for professionals as well as for patients.

The Minister of Health met on Tuesday morning on this subject all the centers for assisted reproduction and the regional health authorities. In the afternoon, he was to receive, with Minister Delegate Elisabeth Moreno and Secretary of State Adrien Taquet, professionals and families to discuss the reform and their expectations.

Faced with the risk of sperm shortage, which worries some associations, a communication campaign to encourage donation should soon be launched by the Ministry of Health.
