The Plateau-Mont-Royal borough has opened nearly all of its splash pads to bring relief to locals.

“It’s already hot today and it’s going to be hot over the weekend,” Plateau councilor Alexander Norris said Wednesday, “so we want to give people in the Plateau a chance to cool off. We’ve opened the splash pads early. We passed the message to our civil servants and we acted quickly. We thank them for getting these facilities up and running early. ”

But pool openings are still several weeks away.

“It’s more complex for the pools,” said Plateau councillor Marie Plourde. “We depend on students (to work as lifeguards). It also takes more time to get a pool ready compared to preparing the splash pads. So this is our way of helping get through the first heat wave.

“Once the snow goes, we start the street cleaning and redoing the painted lines on the streets. We put up the bicycle stands. There’s a whole list of things, but everything was shaken up by the arrival of this heat wave. So we put the emergency focus on the splash pads, so people can refresh themselves.”

With the humidex, it’s expected to feel like 34 C on Friday and 35 C on Saturday.
