Place for readers | A budget that leaves no one indifferent

Many of you commented on the measures announced in the federal budget on Tuesday afternoon; Here is an overview of the emails received.

We miss Brian Mulroney

“This budget is the result of a Prime Minister who knows absolutely nothing about economics. Mr. Trudeau and his ministers have reached their level of incompetence. We are an overtaxed economy both at the level of taxpayers and businesses. Foreign investors will flee Canada. We deserve to have a government that knows how to count and control its spending, like Brian Mulroney did. »

Pierre Benoit

The burden of proof is on the conservatives

“The measures in this federal budget are still good, particularly for housing, young people, and dental insurance. Whether or not it is an electoral budget, there is still next year’s budget before the next elections. The burden (of proof) is now on the conservatives, who will have to demonstrate beyond any doubt what they would do best! »

Christian Gaudreault

Even more taxes to pay

“I am very dissatisfied with this federal budget. Even more taxes to pay to finance the ineffective spending (of the Trudeau government). And the other (Legault government) in Quebec which wants to do the same (with tax) on capital gains. Canada will become a country where it is good to be poor. »

Charles David Gagnon

Monster deficits

“How can we spend so much and create huge deficits, and say that it is a budget for the young generation? It’s simply the old formula of buying votes when you have a finished government. »

Julie Frappier

No rigor

“Satisfied with the federal budget? No. No rigor. We spend lavishly to please the lazy people of society to the detriment of the creators of wealth. It is time for this government to sabotage itself. »

Jean-Francoys Gauvin

The government should reap surpluses

“I think it’s reckless to have such a big deficit when the economy is overheating. When the economy is running at full speed, the government should rake in surpluses to pay down the debt and be in a better position during future recessions. Additional government spending adds to inflationary pressure. »

Jean Masson

We live beyond our means

“I am not satisfied with this federal budget. I am retired and feel guilty leaving my children and grandchildren a debt of this magnitude. We are living beyond our means and they will be the ones paying the bill. Our (political) leaders are thinking about the next election, not the future of our children. »

Pierre Dinelle

A ridiculous budget

“This budget is ridiculous. We struggle throughout our lives to make capital gains and live adequately. With interest rates, taxes, gas prices and food prices rising, it is time for (the Trudeau government) to go. »

Serges Girard

A balancing budget

“What a balancing act by Minister (of Finance) Freeland! Well done ! She will be a worthy successor to (Justin) Trudeau eventually, after the mandate begins in 2025. In the meantime, Pierre Poilievre (leader of the Conservative Party) is done and that is a good thing for Canada. Because he is the emulator of (Donald) Trump and we don’t want that in Canada. »

Rene Chartrand

Good targets

“The budget guidelines seem realistic to me. They targeted the right things. »

Francis Bouchard

A terrible budget

“This budget is terrible. Not only does this government spend too much, but it no longer even knows where to spend and must go to provincial jurisdictions to waste our money. Do you think they don’t know that the next deficit will exceed 40 billion? In the past, we were told that we had to balance the budget. Then, we were told that running deficits is not serious and is even normal as long as the credit rating is good, and that it does not exceed a certain percentage of GDP. Today, not only do we really not care, but we are going to spend even more. If only all this waste was well managed! »
