The fire that swept through a Home Depot in south San Jose with such ferocity that orbiting satellites could detect its heat signature was first reported around the section of lumber hidden in the back corner of the store, investigators announced. of fires on Sunday.
A toxic stew of chemicals, paint, insulation and other building materials burned in the fire, triggering the air quality advisory and prompting nearby residents to shelter in place.
Hot spots continued to expel smoke from the burning wreckage of the building as firefighters continued to pour water on the store and investigators worked to determine the cause of the fire.
