Peso registers a slight depreciation after the Banxico announcement

After the announcement of monetary policy by the Bank of Mexico (Banxico), the exchange rate showed an adjustment. Around 1:00 in the afternoon, Mexico City time, the peso-dollar parity it was at 20.5170 pesos per greenback.

This represents a slight depreciation of 3.61 cents or 0.18 percent.

The central bank announced the sixth consecutive increase in the reference interest rate, taking it this time to 6%; in a split decision, citing a longer duration and magnitude of inflation pressures.

Banxico said in a statement that the expectations for general and underlying annual inflation for 2022 and 2023 “increased again, while those for the medium term decreased slightly and those for the long term have remained stable at levels above the target.”
