Peruvian government seeks to regulate the price of LP gas with a bill

The Minister of Energy and Mines of Peru, Carlos Palacios, announced that the Executive will present a bill to Congress which, if approved, would allow it to regulate the price of LP gas.

“A bill is being drafted so that LPG is treated as a public service, in order to regulate high prices,” said the minister.

Palacios also announced that another bill will be presented so that Petroperú enters the exploitation of the oil lots that culminate their contracts. And also so that the state company can enter the hydrocarbon activity. “Enough of being consumers, we have to be producers,” he noted.

On the other hand, the minister announced that the Government will reactivate the plan for the renegotiation of the Camisea gas contract. “The Minem agrees to request Perupetro next week to attend to the request for the review and renegotiation of this contract,” he stressed.

Palacios also pointed out that they will seek to unblock the project for the construction of the South Peruvian Gas Pipeline. “The arbitration has to be resolved in order to conclude the project. The Minem will propose declaring the South Gas Pipeline an emergency and providing legal mechanisms to be able to conclude the project. The Minem will create a technical work table based in Cusco in a week, ”he indicated. Minister Bustamante also pointed out that the Executive will support a project for the construction of an electric monorail. The project will be developed through a technical table.
