Paula Badosa: a punt in life with tennis and courage

ZAPOPAN- An apple is Paula Badosa’s only companion in the minutes before entering the tennis courts. Her slim and strong figure reflects the perfect care of her physique through diet, although for her there is another important point to attend to: mental health.

Badosa Gibert has just turned 24 during his participation in the 2021 WTA Finals. Despite his youth, he has already lived a carousel of emotions within elite tennis that makes him take things with the same good sense with which he analyzes each shot on court.

“The main actions I did this year to reach my best ranking was to work very hard, mentally I have taken a step forward, I have more confidence in myself, I have grown a lot in my game and in the end, putting everything together in the puzzle comes out my best year and I am very proud of it ”, the Spanish tennis player tells El Economista.

Badosa’s 2021 is a break point in her career: she went from position 70 in the ranking to number 10, she became the first Spanish to win Indian Wells and also thanks to her points she gave her country a double presence in the WTA Finals (with Garbiñe Muguruza) after 21 years. Although he fell in the semifinals in Guadalajara, he stole the love of the fans.

His fist to the sky in victory and his eyes always forward make it impossible to imagine that his beginnings in tennis were overwhelmed by depression. Badosa was 17 when he won the 2015 Junior Roland Garros and felt more and more pressure on him until he reached 2019 with an emotional breakdown.

“It was very difficult to live with expectations. If you have things on your mind, you don’t train or eat well, you experience anxiety and get distracted. We started to work on that to be calm on the track. My coach made me see that if I lost a game I would still be the same ”.
