The Vancouver park board will close the Aquatic Center on Saturday due to an April 20 unauthorized cannabis protest event planned at Sunset Beach.
Staff say they expect hundreds of people, including vendors, to attend the event, which does not have a permit from the city.

To ensure public safety, staff said they will also close restrooms at Sunset Beach and parking lots at Sunset Beach, English Bay and the Vancouver Aquatic Centre.

They will also fence certain areas of Sunset Beach to prevent damage to the soil and grass.
Park rangers, Vancouver police and city protective services will be present at the event, the park board said.
Marijuana has been legal in Canada since October 17, 2018, but advocates say the April 20 event is still a protest because many people have been excluded from legalization.
