If you’re looking for a different winter activity to try, Calgarian Sandy Ivic has just started offering something new.

She said it brings a welcome break for those feeling cooped up during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ivic added a type of mini ski called a Snowfeet to the items he rents at his Skate Hut rental shop near the ice rink at North Glenmore Park in southwest Calgary.

“It’s a mix of skiing and skating,” Ivic said. “It’s like a different vibe on its own.”

“I brought Snowfeet because COVID has kept us on lockdown,” Ivic said. “And people are looking for something new to do. Get out in the fresh air, in nature.”

Ivic offered a few people a chance to try Snowfeet at North Glenmore Park on Thursday.

“It’s a lot like Nordic skiing,” said Steve Babcock, “This is a great combo: go skating and Snowfeeting.”

With many people tying Snowfeet using ski poles along with them, the activity also provides exercise for the arms.

“It’s fun,” said Marie Babcock. “And it’s always good to learn something new, and I think that’s what has been missing in COVID.”

Ivic says that Snowfeet is definitely getting more popular.

“They are even talking about this being a new Olympic sport,” Ivic said. “I mean, it’s really taking off in Europe and the United States, but it’s very new in Canada.”
