Outbreak declared at Kingston Integrated Care Center, 11 associated cases – Kingston | The Canadian News

Kingston’s Integrated Care Hub is facing a new challenge, with several of its customers testing positive for COVID-19.

As of Tuesday, the center, which cares for the city’s most vulnerable population, has 11 cases linked to its Montreal Street center.

According to Gilles Charette, CEO of HARS Kingston, which helps run the center, this is the first time the center has had to deal with so many cases at once.

“This is something that has felt distant to a lot of people, and it’s obviously close to home now. So there are some people who are feeling anxiety, understandably, ”he said.

He said a person who frequented the center tested positive for COVID-19 after leaving the city.

Once the care center staff received public health news about the case, the tests began.

“By Saturday, we had received confirmation from public health that six people tested positive,” Charette said.

Those who tested positive have been isolated from the rest of the population and will remain in construction trailers until they are no longer positive for the virus, Charette said.

The outbreak was officially declared on November 1.
