Ontario Reports Fourth Daily Record With Over 18,400 New COVID Cases | The Canadian News

Ontario reported 18,445 new COVID cases on Saturday, the fourth day in a row that counts continue to break daily records for positive infections. The total number of provincial cases now stands at 774,806.

Some data was published on New Years Day by Ontario Public HealthAlthough the provincial government said it would not provide data for the weekend due to the holidays. The provincial government is expected to release the full data sets on Tuesday.

However, Public Health Ontario cautions that due to recent changes in test availability due to the highly infectious variant of Omicron, the report is “an underestimation of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in Ontario. As such, the data should be interpreted with caution. “

Saturday’s count surpasses the record for daily case counts reported on Friday that recorded 16,713 new cases, 13,807 new infections on Thursday and 10,436 new infections on Wednesday, as the Omicron variant continues to sweep through Ontario.
