Online classifieds: Police arrest four ‘shopper-aggressors’

Four suspects were arrested in Montreal for assaulting people they had just met in order to conclude a sale initiated on a classifieds site.

The four suspects were nabbed last week.

The first two, Emmanuel Mgoung Bougha, 22, and Anthony Canales, 21, are suspected of having sprayed a man with cayenne pepper in order to steal the car he wanted to sell, on March 23, in the borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro.

The two individuals allegedly posed as buyers interested in the victim’s car. They would then have carried out a road test, before spraying the man with irritant gas.

Their tactic did not work, however, and they fled empty-handed.

The duo was finally pinned on May 4.

Two days later, Montreal police arrested two other individuals for the same kind of crime, committed on April 21, again in the borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro.

On that day, 21-year-old Osman Hussain and 22-year-old Sukhdav Singh Virk allegedly posed as potential buyers of computer equipment worth several thousand dollars that the victim was trying to sell through a small business website. advertisement.

“They gave the victim an appointment and, at gunpoint, stole the equipment before fleeing,” the authorities said in a statement.

Although the two crimes have several similarities, the investigation was unable to establish a link between the two.

The four young men appeared at the Montreal courthouse on several counts, including robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and conspiracy.
