One year of the Govern Aragonès: more budget in Education and tension with the schools

  • The Executive is experiencing its worst crisis with the educational community despite having fulfilled promises such as free P-2 and lower ratios in P-3

A education quality, equitable and inclusive. It was the investiture commitment of Pere Aragones. From the outset, the Government’s budgets for 2022 allocated an item of 6,681 million euros to the Department of Education, a figure that represents an increase of 1,009 million euros, 17.8% more, compared to the 2020 accounts. highest item in the history of the department and the second highest of the ‘conselleries’ of the Executive in this exercise. Funds that will cover two star promises of the ‘president’ in educational matters: free P-2 and the reduction of ratios in P-3. Promises that will already be realities this course 22-23.

Paradoxically, despite the budget increase and these fulfilled promises, the Govern de Aragonès is experiencing one of the worst crises with the educational community. Crisis that has come from the hand of the head of Education, Josep González-Cambraytarget of the wrath of the teachers, upset with the ways of the ‘conseller’, whose dismissal they have unsuccessfully asked for. The surprise advancement of the start of the school year, without prior consultation with the educational community, added to the fatigue of teachers after two years of the pandemic, have been the trigger for a revolt that calls for reversing the cuts in education. The conflict remains open, with strikes called, despite the fact that the Government insists that it is already putting in place the means to progressively reverse these cuts.
