PRAGUE – One person died after the cabin of a Czech cable car fell off its cable on Sunday in the north of the country, while others were rescued from another cabin, a spokesman for the rescue service said.

The cable car to the 1,000-meter (3,300-foot) Jested Mountain uses two cabins, each of which is operated by a member of staff.

“A cabin fell on the way down. There was a person inside, who unfortunately succumbed to his injuries, “spokesman Michael Georgiev told Czech Television.

“Fortunately, the other cabin stayed in its usual place, about 15 people were evacuated, they should have been without injuries, they only suffered a mental shock,” he said.
