Dozens of protesters gathered in downtown Montreal on Saturday night to protest the second COVID-19 curfew in the province.

The curfew, which went into effect Friday night, runs from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Prime Minister François Legault said it was necessary to limit the meetings and stop the spread of the Omicron variant.
Protesters gathered near the intersection of Sherbrooke and McGill College streets, where the prime minister’s office is located in Montreal, to challenge these latest rules.
SPVM spokeswoman Caroline Chèvrefils said one person was arrested for assaulting a police officer.
In addition, it said that 57 fines were issued for curfew violations.
Fines for adults who circumvent curfew range from $ 1,000 to $ 6,000. Teens 14 and older can be fined $ 500.
