Wondering when Toronto’s Sakura (cherry blossom) trees will bloom is an annual event for many people in Toronto that wish to get outside and take in their beauty, and High Park is perhaps the best known place to go. Its fame only grew over the last two years — with a lockdown in place and fencing erected, much like many workplaces, a webcam was the only view.

Thankfully, a recent city announcement said that they are “ready to welcome people back to viewing cherry blossoms up close and in person at High Park for the first time since 2019.” Also, although not announced, the city confirmed that there are no plans to erect fencing at Trinity Bellwoods Park during the cherry blossom tree bloom this year.

Toronto's High Park is open to vehicle traffic again and the barriers to access the cherry blossoms are open, allowing park visitors to walk among the blossoming trees that were a gift from Japan.

So, with the cherry blossom happening across the city in the coming weeks, you have something to look forward to, and can plan your adventures now.

And, cherry trees — although spectacular — are not the only trees to provide beautiful flowers in spring. To help you go hunting for a flowering tree near you, the Star has mapped a selection of them, thanks to Toronto’s Parks, Forestry & Recreation Division, which maintains detailed data on street trees in the city.
