Oil prices gain more than 1% in the first day of 2022

The oil prices closed on a positive note this Monday, after having fluctuated during the first session of the year, just before the meeting of the Opep +.

The barrel of North Sea Brent for delivery in March it gained 1.54%, to 78.98 dollars. While in New York, the barrel of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for February delivery increased 1.15% to $ 76.08.

On the eve of a new meeting of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and its allies through the agreement Opep +, observers expect the course to be maintained in May 2021, with a gradual increase in production, of only 400,000 barrels per day.

One day before this meeting, the OPEC it lowered its estimate of world oil market surplus for the quarter. The operators saw in this a sign that the cartel and its allies will continue with a modest increase in production.

Last year, the crude oil price it skyrocketed, achieving its best gains in 12 years, while vaccination allowed the world’s economies to restart, increasing the demand for hydrocarbons.

In 2021, the price of Brent grew by more than 50% and that of WTI by more than 55%, driven by the return in demand and the end of sanitary restrictions at the beginning of the year.
