Oakville school lockdowns lifted after sighting of man with replica gun


Lockdowns in several Oakville schools have been lifted after a reported sighting of a man with a gun in the area. Halton police have confirmed that the firearm was a replica.

Police have taken a youth into custody after a suspected threat to Oakville area schools Tuesday afternoon. halton police tweeted around 2:42 pm that White Oaks Secondary School, near McCraney Street East and Sixth Linewas in lockdown.

École Gaétan-Gervais, Montclair Public School, St. Michael Elementary, Munns Public School and École élémentaire du Chêne were also placed in hold and secure, police said.

The suspect was described wearing a blue and white t-shirt, black shorts and a backpack, according to police.

There are no reported injuries and police said on Twitter that there is no ongoing threat to public safety at this time.

Halton police said charges are pending but not laid as of yet.
