Nuevo León, one of the five states with the lowest share of health spending: Coparmex

Monterrey, NL. Nuevo León is one of the five states with the lowest proportion of health spending, with 3.93%, lower than the country’s average of 4.23%, due to the high rate of labor formality prevailing in the state, according to an analysis by the Confederation of Employers of the Republic of Mexico (Coparmex) Nuevo León , with data from the National Survey of Household Income and Expenditure, ENIGH 2020, of Inegi.

The states with the lowest rate of health spending in the country in 2020 were: Chihuahua with 2.75%, followed by Quintana Roo with 2.86%, the state of Mexico with 3.08% and Baja California with 3.16 percent.

On the contrary, in the poorest states of the country, with the highest rates of labor informality, the proportion of health spending it is very high. In Hidalgo and Oaxaca, spending on health care represents 6.58% of total spending by families. Other entities with high rates were Sinaloa, Guerrero, Veracruz, Michoacán, Chiapas, Yucatán and Zacatecas.

Cecilia Carrillo López, director of Coparmex Nuevo Leon, stressed the importance of workers having opportunities to access formal employment, where the employer sector fulfills its job responsibilities.

“Ideally, all families in Nuevo León and the country would have access to efficient health services, as workers and their families can do, without having to incur significant expenses,” the directive reads.

He emphasized that to the extent that there is greater social responsibility, such as the one that prevails in New Lion, and quality public health services, workers and their families will have more resources for other areas such as education.
