Nuevo León exceeds pre-pandemic figures in FDI with 4,026.2 million dollars: SE

At the end of 2021, New Lion captured 4,026.2 million dollars, which represented a year-on-year increase of 30.11%, and exceeded the pre-pandemic figures with 23%, when compared to the last quarter of 2019, data from the Federal Ministry of Economy indicate. This year, the expectation is to reach 4,250 million dollars of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)indicated to The EconomistIván Rivas Rodríguez, Secretary of State Economy.

This perspective is due to the fact that “in the four months that the new state administration has been in office, we have had 18 confirmed projects of FDIfor more than 800 million dollars and more than 10,000 jobs, many of them have to do with Information Technology, Advanced Engineering and we are beginning to migrate to another type of investment”.

“Of course our backbone is manufacturing and industry, but investment is already beginning to arrive that has to do with Industry 4.0, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Electromobility,” said the local official.

The state economy secretary highlighted the FDI that Nuevo León captured in the fourth quarter of 2021, which amounted to 921.7 million dollars, “which represented 24.3% of all national investment, that is, one of every four dollars that arrived in the country, was received by the state ”.

“Investment is coming to Nuevo León, due to the human capital we have, 8,000 graduated engineers per year and 20,000 technicians; also because of the new infrastructure that is being built, such as the La Gloria-Colombia highway, to bring the Monterrey metropolitan area closer to the United States; the growth of the Colombia Bridge and security, investors see it as an investment pole”, he specified.

Origin of FDI in Nuevo León

United States continues to be the main origin of the companies that settle in the entity, with 3,074.1 million dollars, at the end of 2021, which meant 76.35% of the FDI state.

Rivas Rodríguez recognized that United States continues to be the main investor in New Lionhowever, said that the FDI has been diversifying, because before the American Union represented 95% of the total, and now capitals are received from Spain for 291.2 million; Japan 247.8 million; Germany 199.2 million and Argentina with 147.3 million dollars, among other countries.

In the national top five, New Lion it occupied the second position behind Mexico City, with 5,056.9 million dollars, and preceded Baja California with 2,212.8 million, Jalisco with 2,098.3 million and Chihuahua with 1,843.4 million dollars.
