Nuevo León authorities will lower the water pressure to a minimum in the Monterrey Metropolitan Area

Monterey, NL. Due to lack of rain, high water consumption since the northwestern part of the metropolitan area has been most affected by supply cuts due to its distance from the water treatment plant, the pressure will be reduced to a minimum from 6 in the afternoon to 6 in the morning, commented Juan Ignacio Barragán, director of Water and Drainage Services of Monterrey.

This recalibration of Water Plan for Allseeks to give certainty to the entire population, especially the 17% who were left without water for one to three days.

“The program with the 7 sectors continues, it is not modified (that is, there is a water cut in one sector per day), but an additional factor is added, the pressure will be lowered to a minimum from 6 in the afternoon and until 6 in the morning in order to guarantee that there is water for everyone,” explained the official.

He warned that the houses that are in high areas or far from the tanks will not have water from 6 in the afternoon to 6 in the morning and it is estimated that this would affect 50% of the house.

Juan Ignacio Barragán asked the population to show solidarity with the areas that have had water supply problems, since these measures will continue until August. The perspectives could change if there is a precipitation of 150 millimeters, so that it hits the dams.

Less precipitation than expected

Between March, April and this month the rainfall has been less than expected and has not contributed to the recharge of the aquifers or the dams. “Faced with this situation, we have been working for 10 days to recalibrate the model, in order for it to work more adequately.”

He showed a graph where it can be seen that in the week of March 14 to 20, when the Water for All Program was announced, consumption rose to more than 16,000 liters per second, because people began to buy drums and water tanks to store water. , then consumption dropped and is currently at 13,562 liters per second.

“With this amount of water, we are lacking liquid to supply the north-west area of the city. Every morning the tanks have water, but those in the Saint Barnabas, San nicolas de los herospart of Monterey, escobedo, Garcia, Cienega de Flores Y Victoria Salt Flatsthey are at a minimum level and in a few hours they are empty, and that means that many people are without water,” he said.

He stressed that this situation generates inequity in the supply of drinking water, because for example, if a tank is emptied in Juárez or Guadalupe it can be filled in an hour, since it is close to the pipe, but in the aforementioned areas it takes several hours to fill. hours.

“The most critical area is Topo Chico, in Monterrey. In this area, most of the tanks were built in 1971 and 1973, and were calculated based on a total population, which today is exceeded,” for example, in 1990 Escobedo had 85,000 inhabitants and now it has 351,000, the official deepened.
