No charges for woman who struck nine pedestrians at West Island polling station

Police confirmed that the incident was accidental and the result of a false maneuver.

Earlier Tuesday, the condition of one of the nine people was deemed “uncertain,” but police later said the 77-year-old is in stable condition. There was nothing to suggest that her life was in danger, but the doctors did not want to draw any conclusions before her treatment ended.

Police announced Monday night that the number of victims in the incident had risen to nine. Five men, three women and a five-year-old boy were injured Monday afternoon. A man was added to the total of those who were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Investigators had said Tuesday morning that the incident appeared to be accidental, although they were trying to determine whether it was caused by mishandling or “conduct that could lead to charges, although it was unintentional.”

The driver was questioned by police and released Monday night.
