Nine years for almost killing his ex

A jealous spouse who stabbed his ex-girlfriend 10 days after being released on bail was sentenced to nine years in prison on Thursday.

“My life has been going downhill in the past year. He tried to kill me when I thought he was the man of my life, “said the victim of Maxime Quenneville emotionally, Thursday, at the Montreal courthouse.

In tears in the dock, Quenneville, 29, had just pleaded guilty to his attempted murder which occurred last October, but also to the assault committed 10 days earlier on his ex-girlfriend.

After getting it into his head that he was a cuckold, he hit his wife for the first time.

Arrested and charged, he was however released on bail. And right after, he hatched a plan to kill her.

“Madam dozed off in front of the television, she woke up being stabbed and strangled,” said Me Isabelle Charles de la Couronne. He was in a state of intense anger, she received 19 blows, including four in the back and the side. »

Nightmare

Seriously injured, the victim was able to flee and take refuge under a balcony before being rescued by neighbors. Hospitalized for a month, she miraculously survived and has no physical damage.

“It’s a nightmare for anyone in the justice system,” commented Judge Lori Renée Weitzman. We wanted to give him a chance, the rule is release, and he does it again. Thank God he couldn’t achieve his goal. »

Visibly remorseful, Quenneville quickly pleaded guilty to attempted murder and breach of conditions, among other charges. He thus avoided the victim from testifying, which the latter said she appreciated.

“I may be able to move on,” said the latter.

But while she feels the 9-year sentence will give her time to recover from the crimes, part of her is grieving given the love she had for him.
