New housing projects and land development in La Sarre

The City took stock Tuesday evening on the progress of various projects on which the municipal council is working, in particular those concerning housing as well as residential and industrial development.

The Saar offered free land and agreed to tax exemptions over a period of 30 years.

We are proud as a central city [de l’Abitibi-Ouest] to have such an infrastructure. We had a social, moral duty to have that in La Sarre. It is an added value for our low-income people. We know that the cost of living keeps rising.mentions the mayor of La Sarre, Yves Dubé.

The City is grappling with a serious shortage of housing, while the vacancy rate is approaching 0.2% according to the most recent data from the City.

Residential and industrial development

The municipal administration also unveiled a rebate program to encourage the sale of land in the new development of modular homes on rue Gabriel-Aubé. It will now cost nearly $9,000 to secure a space there.

The expansion of the industrial park, located on the outskirts of Route 111, can finally go ahead. According to Yves Dubé, issues related to the categorization of part of the place as a wetland had complicated the project.

The Saar is not against wetlands. We found ourselves at 44% in a humid environment. We managed to bypass the wetlands to fall on good groundwishes to specify the mayor.

Industries and businesses interested in establishing themselves on one of the new lots available in the fall will be able to share an envelope of $250,000, granted by the City.

A study on housing in the territory has also recently begun. The City wants to have a better picture of how the territory is developed and where it can launch new residential, commercial and industrial developments.

Strategic planning

Most of the projects overseen by the La Sarre municipal council are included in the strategic plan, unveiled in February. All elected officials work in the same direction, assures the mayor.

We have new blood, it’s really nice. We are on a vibes with our strategic plan. We know where we are going. We are going to have a great assessment to make during our fourth year to say, here is what we have achieved and not just the last year of our mandate.points out Yves Dubé.

The municipal departments and services stick much more to the wishes of elected officials than in the past, says the director general of the City, Isabelle D’Amours.

We’re close because we learned from our mistakes […]. The team is happy to have clear directions that the municipal council wants to take during their mandate. It may be easier for us to meet the needs and that there are no requests that arrive a little no matter howshe points out.

The Dubé administration indicates that nearly 50% of the projects established in the strategic plan have begun, three months after its implementation.

Other project announcements should be made by the end of July.
