The ‘conselleria’ entrusts the directorates with contracting the activities and the aFFac accuses it of leaving it on the sidelines
New scuffle between the Department of Education and the Federated Associations of Families of Students of Catalonia (aFFaC) on account of the extracurricular activities for the month of September, which will be free for all students to compensate for the effects of the early start of the course and the intensive day in September. The ‘conselleria’ will order the addresses of educational centers hiring of the companies that will organize these recreational activities September afternoons. The decision has irritated aFFaC, who have accused the Department of leaving them out.
Educació has ensured that the companies that will be counted on will be those that are already developing the midday space in the schools with the aim of providing pedagogical coherence. In fact, this week the directors of the schools will be informed that the entities to be contracted must be under the umbrella of the center’s educational project, within the annual program and endorsed by the School Council of each school, where the families are represented .
The ‘conselleria’ argues that it cannot send money to the associations – not all schools have afa – and that the easiest way to manage this issue and to guarantee financing is that the hiring is done directly by the addresses. He has underlined that the management of the September school evenings will be supervised by the Department’s territorial services, which will accompany the directors in hiring.
Educació has insisted, in an attempt to calm things down, that there will be continuity with respect to what the centers usually do, so that companies that the students already know, the spaces and have the same monitors can continue.

From aFFac, on the other hand, they reject these explanations and criticize that this way of proceeding confirms their fears about the advancement of the course and the application of the intensive day because “it promotes the privatization of education through the transfer of leisure time to private companies” . The entity assures that in a meeting they held with Educació last week it was explained to them that the concerted schools would receive a subsidy to manage the leisure activities in September. In a statement, the aFFaC has lamented the attitude of “constant contempt, manipulation and deception” towards families and has accused the ‘ministry’ of “lying” and “breaching agreements”.
