New Brunswick Trail Ranks Lonely in Canada on National Geographic List | The Canadian News

National Geographic has published its top destinations for 2022 and a popular New Brunswick hiking trail was the only Canadian location on the list.

According to the Mi’gmaq Trail website, the 150-kilometer trail follows the Nepisiguit River system from Bathurst, NB, to Mount Carleton Provincial Park. The Mi’gmaq used the river for more than 10,000 years as a migration route and to access the interior of the earth.

Follow the trail and you’ll find the landscape and trail conditions that change often, from the river delta to the valley to the Appalachian Mountains. Along the way you can see waterfalls, river rapids, cliffs, viewpoints, and side trails.

National Geographic outlined five different categories for this year’s list: nature, adventure, sustainability, culture, and history.

While the pandemic has been tough on people, and many are still reluctant to travel around the world, the National Geographic team is optimistic that we will soon be comfortable reclaiming the adventure.

“While the pandemic paralyzed many of our travel plans for nearly two years, our appetite for new and impactful travel has only grown. In many ways, the pandemic provided a moment for travelers and communities around the world to reflect and regroup on how we explore the world, ”said George Stone, executive editor of National Geographic Travel.
