The move comes amid the ongoing Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) strike in New Brunswick.

“CUPE has proven to be unpredictable across the province creating a volatile climate for teachers, students and parents,” Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development Dominic Cardy said in a news release Sunday afternoon.

“We want to make sure that families can plan ahead and don’t wonder what the next day will bring. This will help establish as much stability and continuity of learning for New Brunswick residents as possible, which is why we are implementing this lockdown in our school system. “
