Nestlé buys the Catalan dietetic company PronoKal for around 100 million

Five years after investing in it, the fund Abac Capital has closed the sale of the dietary company Pronokal Group to Nestle. The Swiss food group, which has closed the agreement through its health sciences division, thus expands its presence in the weight loss and control market, a segment in which it already operates through the brands Optifast (meal replacement bars and shakes) and Body. Nestlé’s objective with Pronokal, according to a statement from the fund that until now has been its owner, will be to offer additional solutions in new geographical areas. As Cinco Días advances and El Periódico has been able to confirm, the multinational has paid close to 100 million euros for this Barcelona-based company.

PronoKal is a platform that offers different services related to weight loss and control. It does so from the perspective of ketogenic diet, which recommends consuming certain foods in the correct proportion, especially foods rich in fat, and avoiding carbohydrates. Its offer includes medical supervision, a physical exercise plan and nutritional training and lifestyle.

“We are excited at the prospect of being part of Nestlé Health Sciencesworld leader in health and nutrition, and to benefit from its extensive resources, talent and knowledge of the sector”, values the CEO of PronoKal, Andrew Puig. According to this manager, the mission of this company is “to transform people’s lives through weight loss treatments guided by professionals, with a multidisciplinary approach and scientific rigor”. “It has been a pleasure working with Abac over the past few years and we look forward to continuing our growth trajectory,” she completes.

Cost effectiveness

Since Abac took over this company in 2017 -reviews the fund in the statement-, the company has completed its digital transformation and has achieved leadership in the sector, among other things, in terms of profitability. PronoKal had a turnover of 45 million euros last year and has a workforce of around 260 people.
