Neither impunity nor oblivion, CDMX prosecutor assures one year after the collapse of Line 12 of the Metro


A year after the collapse of a section of Line 12 of the Metro, which caused the death of 26 people, the prosecutor of Justice of Mexico City, Ernestina Godoy Ramos, affirmed that in this case there is no impunity or oblivion.

“At no time has there been impunity. Repairing damage is synonymous with justice and its action takes place within the framework of the Constitution and the rule of law. Neither impunity nor oblivion, just truth, justice, full reparation for the damage and the guarantee of non-repetition”, said the local official.

In a message to the media, after relatives of victims questioned that there are no officials of the current and previous governments prosecuted for said incident in the Metro, the prosecutor stated that “traditionally it is thought that justice consists only of jail for those who should be punished. , however, it has been shown that to show true justice we must start with the aggrieved people, with the victims, that is what we know as restorative justice”.




He affirmed that although there is no amount that repairs the loss of a loved one, 90% of people with injuries or relatives of those who died, already have a compensation agreement, some of them include the guarantee of studies up to the majority of age.

Ernestina Godoy invited those who have so far refused to sign a reparation agreement, to approach the prosecutor’s office.

After thanking the company cicsa for facilitating reparation agreements, prosecutor Ernestina Godoy argued that never in a case like this, at the national or international level, have agreements been reached so quickly to care for victims and their families.

In her message, the head of the Attorney General of Mexico City He stated that from the moment of the accident his priority was to attend to the victims, determine the causes that caused it and the responsibility attributable to natural or legal persons.

He stressed that based on scientific evidence, the Prosecutor’s Office has an irrefutable theory of the case: the collapse of a section of the line 12 it was caused by various errors in its construction and the design had deficiencies that put the long-term structural stability of the work at risk.

He pointed out that so far they have carried out more than 1,400 procedures to gather evidence and deepen the investigation, in addition to the fact that 388 interviews have been carried out with direct and indirect victims; 294 expert opinions in various specialties and 484 collaborations with dependencies.

He said that at the hearing on Monday, May 2, the Prosecutor’s Office would charge eight people and two representatives of legal entities for the crimes of homicide, injury and negligent damage.
