National Customs Agency will be released in January 2022

The new one National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM) will enter into force from the first day of January of the following year, in accordance with the decree published on Tuesday afternoon in the Official Journal of the Federation (DOF) by the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

In this way, the Service tax administration (SAT) will cease to have control over the customs that exist in the country through the General Administration of Customs (AGA), which will have to transfer human, financial and material resources to ANAM.

What has been published also includes the creation of customs office number 50 in the country, that of the Felipe Angeles International Airport, in the State of Mexico.

Meanwhile, the decree states that the expenditures generated by this decree will be made from the budget approved for the SHCP the following year, and no additional resources will be authorized or the budget will increase.

“The Service tax administration may provide the National Customs Agency of Mexico the communication services and information technologies required to support its administrative functions until it can carry them out on its own, under the terms of the collaboration agreement that is entered into for this purpose ”.

The National Customs Agency is created, in agreement with the government, with the objective of strengthening the Mexican customs system, and will be a decentralized body of the Secretary of Finance and Public Credit, with technical, operational, administrative and managerial autonomy.

With data to November, customs left a collection of 904,047 million pesos, 9.7% more than last year. These revenues represented 28% of the total collected by the SAT in the period; However, the collection body has highlighted on multiple occasions that customs collection has been affected by smuggling and, in the current situation, by the impacts of the pandemic.
