Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser announced Tuesday that the deadline for the Traffic Ticket Amnesty Program was extended from September 30 to December 31, 2021.

Since the beginning of this program, on June 1, 2021, more than 32 thousand drivers have benefited. Collectively, more than $ 44 million in fines have been settled, the DC mayor said in a statement.

Residents of DC and other areas will have until the end of this year to take advantage of the program that provides the opportunity to pay late fines for parking, photography and minor traffic violations without having to pay the double fine.

“As the District continues to recover from the pandemic, we know this is a program that is helping residents, many of whom have had to make difficult financial decisions, start over, and get back on track,” Bowser said.

“Whether through this amnesty program or the STAY DC program, we encourage all residents in need of financial assistance to apply for these programs today,” he added.

Under this program, eligible drivers only have to pay the original amounts of the fines; any penalty will be waived. Starting in 2022, the penalties for late payments will be reinstated.

Residents and non-residents facing financial hardship should contact the Central Collections Unit of the Office of the Director of Finance (OCFO CCU) to learn about the options available to people in hardship situations.
