After the formation of the Mundo Maya project, federal authorities announced that an air connectivity project will be implemented to better link the south-southeast of the country with Central America.

While the second phase of this plan will focus on uniting the southern Mexican states with El Salvador and Belize.

To achieve this task, said the official, the company Aeromar was initially chosen, a company with which the establishment of air connectivity in the south-southeast of the country began.

“This initiative represents an action without precedent in the history of the important program (…) We all know that without connectivity there is no tourism, for this reason the implementation of this connectivity,” he said.

Danilo Correa Sepúlveda, general director of Aeromar, specified how this first stage of the operation plan will be: “three times a week we will fly from Cancun to Flores, Guatemala. From Guatemala to San Pedro Sula, in Honduras, four times a week and from Guatemala to Flores, with 11 frequencies ”.

“How good that Aeromar has the privilege of leading this effort with partners such as ARM Aviation, which does the operational part, and G Airways, which does the commercial part,” he emphasized.

The secretary stressed that in addition to this action, a business conference held in July was added, where the integration of multi-destination products for the Mayan World was presented; This event was attended by wholesalers, tour operators from the United States, Canada, Central and South America.

When specifying that the promotion will also be strengthened, he said that these actions are also due to the fact that the Mayan Train will soon operate.

He stressed that the railway project seeks to become an example of a new tourism model focused on regionalization, participatory inclusion, product integration and sustainability.

Diversification

Miguel Torruco recalled that this alliance was made with the objective of diversifying the country’s tourist offer, as well as establishing commercial relations with Central America.

At the local level, Yucatán, Quintana Roo, Campeche, Tabasco and Chiapas participate in the alliance, while at the international level Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.

In 2019, he indicated, about 50 million international tourists arrived in these five countries, which represented 3.4% of the world total; while these arrivals generated an expense of 28,000 million dollars.

At the same time, he deepened that this alliance takes on greater importance due to the pandemic, since the profile of the tourist has changed. “Today it demands green spaces, outdoors, in contact with nature (…) it is about enhancing one of the areas with the greatest biodiversity”.

One of the objectives is to improve air connectivity to detonate tourism, for which the construction of the Creel Airport project will soon be completed.

For the Mayan Train, they put out to tender a sustainable tourism plan in Tulum

Cancun, QR. The National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur) launched the tender by means of a restricted invitation to three participants for the elaboration of the Tourism Development Program of the Zone of Influence of the Mayan Train.

According to the agency, the objective is “to order and contain the tourist development of Tulum to position it as a sustainable destination, of quality, innovative and respectful of the natural, social and cultural resources that it possesses.”

Interested parties should consider the legal foundations, planning instruments in urban, tourist and environmental development, as well as the territorial regulations that have been carried out in the area.

In the technical annex of the call, it is added that in Tulum there are regulatory loopholes that legally give rise to irregular constructions, invasion of protected areas, urban and commercial densifications that promote and deepen socio-spatial segregation, disparity in the coverage of equipment and infrastructure between tourist sites and the rest of the localities that live in the vicinity.

In addition, it is anticipated that the construction and operation of the Mayan Train will lead to an increase in the movement of goods and tourists who will seek to reach this area in search of the traditional sun and beach segment and, therefore, it will be of great relevance to make the coarse Natural and cultural tourist offer that Tulum has.

To do this, they will take as a basis the “Quintana Roo 2030 Sustainable Tourism Master Plan” (PMTS), prepared by the Tulum Secretariat of Tourism, which seeks to be the basis of an innovative, sustainable, equitable and inclusive tourism model at the state and national.

Among the specific objectives sought with the Tourism Development Program of the Mayan Train Influence Zone is to align with the objectives of the 2030 Agenda (UN), as well as the Territorial Ecological Organization Program (POET), the Program of Local Ecological Planning (POEL), the Urban Development Program (PDU) and the Municipal Program for Territorial, Ecological and Sustainable Urban Development of Tulum (PMOTEDUS).
