Multiple offenses related to sexual exploitation: the SPVQ arrests four people

Four young adults were arrested Wednesday morning by investigators from the Quebec City Police Department who suspect them of having sexually exploited a minor.

In July, a complaint lodged by the victim was forwarded to the Integrated Team for the Fight against Pimping (ELP), a unified investigation structure in which police organizations work together.

Mentioning that she was a victim of sexual exploitation, the investigators gathered numerous elements which enabled them to carry out a search in the sector of Lebourgneuf and to proceed to the arrest of two men and two women aged between 20 and 24 years.

On Wednesday, Jean-Michaël Rioux, 24, well known to the police, appeared before judge Frank D’Amours and the prosecutor opposed his release.

Another member of the quartet is expected to be brought to court on Thursday to be charged with procuring and material benefit from the provision of sexual services to a person under 18, production of child pornography and assault.

According to the police, other charges could arise in connection with this file.

Let us recall that the role of the ELP is to fight effectively against the networks of procuring and trafficking in persons for the purposes of sexual exploitation operating at the interregional, interprovincial and international level.

This structure offers better coordination of cases, faster detection of potential victims, more effective interventions as well as optimal geographic coverage.
