A motorcyclist died after a terrible accident in central Alberta early Friday morning.

Just before 6 a.m., the man collided with a deer on Highway 815 and Township Highway 420, southeast of Ponoka.

RCMP says he lost control of the bike and slipped, stopping in the middle of the road. The motorcycle crashed into the ditch.

Several bystanders stopped to help the victim, but while they were assisting him, a northbound vehicle stopped to pass one of the vehicles that had stopped to help.

One of the Good Samaritans had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit and the vehicle struck the downed motorcyclist. He died at the scene.

RCMP says the vehicle took off, heading north on Highway 815.

It is described as an early 2000 Volkswagen, possibly a Jetta, colored red. It also had a burned-out taillight on the passenger side.
