Motorcyclist in hospital with life-threatening injuries after Highway 28 collision

One person is in hospital with “life-threatening” injuries after a head-on two-vehicle collision between an SUV and a motorcycle in Sturgeon County Monday evening.

Mounties said Morinville RCMP, along with the military police from the Edmonton Garrison and EMS responded to the crash on Highway 28 at the Township Road 544 intersection.

The RCMP received a report of the collision at 6 pm reporting that a northbound SUV made a U-turn and collided head on with a northbound traveling motorcycle. Police said the driver of the motorcycle was taken to an Edmonton area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the SUV has been detained by police for further investigation.

The RCMP are still on scene and traffic is being diverted east and west along Township Road 544 and south of the collision at the Anthony Henday.

Mounties said the RCMP collision reconstructionist are on scene and early investigation suggests impaired driving may be a contributing factor to the crash.
