Motivaction Jeunesse: a 250 km race for integration

Twelve refugees will complete an ultramarathon of hope on Friday, a 250-kilometre race in six days between Montreal and Quebec.

The group left last Sunday at Place Émilie-Gamelin, in Montreal. Their arrival is scheduled around noon, at the Center Louis-Jolliet, an adult education center located in the Limoilou sector, on rue de la Pointe-aux-Lièvres.

These very courageous young people were born in particular in Nepal, Bangladesh, Ukraine, Tanzania and Rwanda. Many lived in refugee camps before arriving in Quebec. Ten nationalities make up the group which delivers a message of openness, tolerance and perseverance.

On the eve of completing this great challenge, what did they want the most on Thursday evening? The answer is surprising but simple. “Rice and chicken!”.

All week, the rain, the wind and the cold did not dampen their motivation. “We like to live here,” they said on the road between Neuville and Saint-Augustin.

Even if fatigue has set in for five days, they will all finish their ordeal, which is certainly not the worst of their lives.
