Mother rings in the new year with the birth of her son, the first baby of 2022 in Kingston – Kingston | The Canadian News

Not all superheroes wear capes. The first real-world superhero of the year could be Janice Tremblay, who welcomed the first baby of 2022 to Kingston General Hospital just before 3 a.m. on January 1, amid strict COVID-19 procedures.

Tremblay and her husband were exposed to an asymptomatic person with COVID-19 on December 29. As a result, Tremblay had to go through labor and delivery without her partner.

“His name is Ethan Robert Tremblay and he weighed 5 pounds 7 ounces,” Tremblay said of ZOOM from his hospital room.

“He was a little small and he had a little shortness of breath, so they took him to the NICU just to take care of him and be cautious, and make sure everything is fine and that he is doing very well there. now, ”he said.

“It was sad and a little disappointing,” she said, referring to her husband missing the delivery.

Tremblay was able to spend time with her son before she was put into isolation. Now she can’t visit Ethan in the NICU.

“They still gave me a good couple of minutes just to hug him,” she said.

“All the staff have been very supportive in that way and the NICU nurse has called me a couple of times just to let me know about my room,” Tremblay said.

Despite being separated, the mom of two says she’s staying positive and looks forward to reuniting with her New Years baby, who decided to arrive 10 days early.

The hope is that Ethan gets out of the NICU on January 2 and they can go home to his father, Joel, and his older sister, 2-year-old Alida. You have been practicing caring for a baby with your dolls.

Calling the new year with the birth of his son wasn’t what Tremblay had in mind, but he says it will be a fun story for years to come.

“He was my big New Years surprise and my new New Years Resolution.”
