The Christian prayer which opens the sittings of the House of Commons each day will continue its course, the federal deputies preferring to maintain the tradition in place.

The Bloc Québécois motion suggesting putting an end to it was rejected by the Liberals and the Conservatives on Wednesday afternoon.
The vast majority of NDP elected officials, however, supported the idea, including their leader Jagmeet Singh. Several of them said they were open to the idea of replacing prayer with territorial recognition of Aboriginal peoples.
