More than 1,200 minors have died from coronavirus

More than two years after the first case of Covid-19 was detected in Mexico, official figures reveal that 957 children and adolescents died from the respiratory disease confirmed by laboratory tests; When including the cases confirmed by clinical association and those ruled by the corresponding committee, the figure rises to 1,267.

Between April 12, 2020 and May 9, the SARS-CoV2 virus claimed the lives of 509 (2.69%) people from zero to 5 years old; 130 (.53%), from six to 11 years old, and 318 (.59%), from 12 to 17 years old.

Of the 1,267 deaths, considering those who had a test and those without a laboratory test, 653 (1.11%) correspond to people from zero to five years old; 184 (0.19%), from six to 11 years old, and 430 (0.22%), to people from 12 to 17 years old.

According to the report entitled “Covid-19 Girls, Boys and Adolescents”, published every week since April 2020 with information from the federal Ministry of Health (SSA) using the “Result_Lab” classification that identifies cases confirmed by laboratories and not includes cases confirmed by clinical association, so far this year the highest number of deaths between one week and another, 18, was recorded two consecutive weeks: from January 23 to 30, and during the first week of February.

As of January 9, there were 823 deaths of children and adolescents in the country who underwent laboratory tests to confirm the disease; 134 less than those registered four months later.

The report on deaths of children and adolescents that considers all cases (confirmed by laboratory, by clinical association and by the Judgment Committee) and that the federal government publishes since August 23, 2021, states that as of January 9 past these amounted to 1,021; As of May 9, another 246 children and adolescents had already died.

The Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, reported a few days ago that 39% of the population between 12 and 17 years of age had already received the anticovid vaccine.

Although the authorities have reported that children aged five and older will soon be included in the national vaccination campaign against Covid-19, in general, this has not happened.

The biological for this population is in the process of being acquired by the federal government.
