Izquierda Unida has shown concern this Sunday about what it considers an escalation in hate crimes and has called for the resignation of the Government delegate in Madrid, Mercedes González, for allowing “neo-Nazi and homophobic” demonstrations such as the one that passed through the neighborhood yesterday Madrilenian from Chueca.

IU Madrid has released this Sunday a statement in which it denounces the wave of homophobic demonstrations that are happening in Spain and the escalation of aggressions against the people of these groups.

The coordinator of IU Madrid, Álvaro Aguilera, has also specified that in the face of these “worrisome” facts “we find the parsimony of the institutions, which far from fighting this hate speech, protect and legitimize it, putting coexistence at risk and even security of the LGTBI collective ”.

This organization cites in the statement yesterday’s demonstration in the Chueca neighborhood, “with neo-Nazi overtones” and with the presence -according to IU- of prominent Vox leaders, a march “that caused fear and unease” among residents.

This demonstration, in the opinion of IU Madrid, supposes “one more step in the continuous aggression that the LGTBI collective suffers from those who propagate, support, justify or legitimize these manifestations of hatred”, and has asked the Government of the community to develop the laws against “LGTBIphobia” approved in the Assembly of Madrid and provide them with resources.

From Más Madrid it has been the councilor Félix López-Rey who has requested the resignation of the Government delegate through a message on Twitter for allowing the demonstration.

In addition, last hour on Saturday, the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, announced that she will inform the Prosecutor’s Office of “the ‘lgtbiphobic’ and racist hatred” of the demonstration.

“We will inform the Prosecutor’s Office of the lgtbiphobic and racist hatred of today’s Nazi demonstration in Chueca. In addition, we are urgently processing the Trans Law and LGTBI rights, which is what allows us to protect rights. LGTBI groups and people, you are not alone “Montero wrote on his Twitter account.

That proposal was joined by the Minister of Social Rights and Agenda 2030, Ione Belarra, who said in a tweet that “we will do everything in our power to combat hatred against the LGTBI collective and racism. We will bring these facts to the Prosecutor’s Office and we will accelerate the process of the law of LGTBI and Trans rights “.
