Volunteers from the Quebec Marine Mammal Emergency Network (RQUMM) interrupted their research on Île Sainte-Hélène on Monday, after two days without sighting the minke whales that had settled in Montreal.

Sunday morning, the captain of the ship “Carolus Magnus” reportedly observed a minke whale at Cap Saint-Michel, 25 km downstream from Sainte-Hélène Island. “Since then, we have had no news”, can we read on the website whaleslive.org.
The last sightings of minke whales swimming in Montreal waters date back to last Saturday at 5:30 p.m. for the first minke whale and 9 p.m. for the second.
The Network asks other Network members who live between Montreal and Charlevoix to be on the lookout and report any sightings.
For the past week, volunteers have taken turns 14 hours a day on Île Sainte-Hélène to follow the minke whales and ensure their safety.
