A sport utility vehicle (SUV) was the subject of an arson attempt in Verdun, Montreal, overnight from Sunday to Monday.
Calls to 911 reported around 2:20 a.m. a burning vehicle on 4th Avenue near Bannantyne Avenue, according to Montreal police.
When the police arrived on the scene, they located near the SUV the beginning of a fire which they quickly brought under control.
According to the police who exploited the first information on the subject, a suspect was seen setting fire to the vehicle using an accelerant.
The suspect fled before the arrival of the police, said spokesperson for the Montreal Police Service, Caroline Chèvrefils.
The investigation has been transferred to the arson section of the SPVM, added the police spokesperson.
The vehicle, which suffered only slight damage, was towed for the purposes of an expert report.
