Montreal: an inmate steals a nurse’s vehicle and escapes

A police operation was underway late Friday morning in Montreal to find an inmate who escaped from the hospital by stealing a nurse’s vehicle.

The events allegedly took place around 10:30 a.m. at the Hôpital du Sacré-Coeur, located on Boulevard Gouin Ouest, in the borough of Ahuntsic-Cartierville.

At the time of the events, the inmate was under the responsibility of correctional officers. They had taken him to the hospital for a reason which was not specified by the authorities.

According to our information, the detainee is called Gaétan Campeau and he is 49 years old.

While in the emergency room, Campeau allegedly managed to steal a nurse’s coat, whose vehicle keys were in a pocket.

For a still unclear reason, Gaétan Campeau would have managed to escape the surveillance of correctional officers and would have managed to flee by stealing the nurse’s vehicle.

It could possibly be a gray Kia Sportage sport utility vehicle.

It is not uncommon for prisoners to be brought to a hospital center to undergo various treatments. However, they are always accompanied by correctional officers to limit the risk of escape.

A little before dinner time, the police were still looking for Gaétan Campeau. The latter was imprisoned for robbery and carrying a weapon, according to our information.
