The 21-year-old Montrealer upset Tsitsipas Sunday to win the ABM Amro tournament in Rotterdam for his first title and he and Tsitsipas were projected to meet in the semifinals in Marseille.

But the top-seeded Tsitsipas came up short in Friday’s quarter-finals, losing to Russian qualifier Roman Safiullin 6-4, 6-4, while the third-seeded Auger-Aliassime shrugged off an early service break to defeat fifth-seeded Ilya Ivashka of Belarus 6-3, 6-4.

Auger-Aliassime will meet Safiullin in one semifinal, while second-seeded Andrey Rublev of Russia will play ninth-seeded Benjamin Bonzi of France.
