Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie has tested positive for COVID-19.

Crombie said in a statement that he is in a good mood and currently has mild symptoms.

He said he is following all public health guidelines and isolating himself at home.

“COVID cases continue to increase rapidly in our community and the Omicron variant is highly communicable,” his statement continued.

“I encourage all Mississauga residents to reserve their first, second, or booster doses as soon as possible.”

Crombie said the additional capacity to support the booster campaign is being put online every day and thanked the healthcare workers who are working to administer the vaccines.

“Getting vaccinated, masking, staying home and testing if you are unwell continues to be the best way to help keep our families, friends and neighbors safe and healthy this holiday season,” the statement said.

Ontario reported a record 9,571 new COVID-19 cases on Friday.
