Mikolaiv, new target of Russian attack; Zelensky visits Bucha

kyiv. Ten civilians were killed and at least 46 were injured in bombings in the city of Mikolaiv, in southern Ukraine, reported yesterday, April 4, its mayor, Oleksander Senkevich.

A first attack by the Russian army at 4:00 a.m. left “one dead and five wounded, two of them seriously”, before another new attack in which “nine people died and another 41 were injured”, he said in a message from video.

The mayor indicated that the number of victims could still increase.

“So in total 10 people were killed in the shelling and 46 were injured,” he said, saying the Russian military had used cluster bombs.

On Sunday, eight people were killed and 34 wounded in attacks by Russian forces on Mikolaiv and Ochakiv, a city 60 km to the southwest, according to the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office.

Mikolaiv, which had a population of 475,000 before the war, was heavily bombed when the Russian army tried unsuccessfully to seize it on its way to Odessa, Ukraine’s largest port.

For his part, the mayor of kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, asked the inhabitants of the Ukrainian capital who fled the conflict not to return for “at least another week.”

“First of all, there is a 24-hour curfew in several districts of the kyiv region. Also in cities near the capital, where fighting continues, a large number of explosive devices have been found, which may pose a great threat,” he said.

“We do not rule out the possibility of rockets being fired. Yes, our air defense forces are working perfectly. But anything can happen. So I ask people to wait a bit and not come back,” he added.

Germany

Germany decided to expel “a large number” of Russian diplomats stationed in Berlin, in the context of the war in Ukraine, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock announced yesterday, which according to AFP information would be 40 people.

For his part, President Joe Biden said he wants a “war crimes trial” after the discovery of many bodies in civilian clothes in the Ukrainian city of Bucha, near kyiv.

Embassy

The Russian embassy in Mexico issued a statement indicating that the government has been “a victim of the overflowing media war against it.” It also makes a replica of what was said by the Ministry of Defense.

“The Russian Ministry of Defense rejects the accusations of the kyiv regime about the alleged massacre of civilians in the city of Bucha (…) All published photos and videos (…) are a new provocation.”
