Michoacán starts strategy aimed at receiving state-of-the-art ships


As part of the project to detonate the Port of Lazaro Cardenasstate authorities announced that the strategy aimed at operating state-of-the-art ships has already started.

This Wednesday, the Ministry of Economic Development (Sedeco) from Michoacán revealed that the container ship was received MSC Amsterdamof the shipping line Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), with a length of 399 meters, a beam of 54 meters, a draft of 14.5 meters and a capacity for 16,000 20-foot containers (TEU).

The state agency explained that the specialized terminal successfully carried out containerized export cargo movements, “with six of its nine Super Post Panamax gantry cranes, by carrying out 2,574 movements, which allowed it to be ready for shipment to Malaysia”.

Precisely, Sedeco pointed out, derived from the adaptations that have been made to this center, Lázaro Cárdenas is positioned as the only port in the Mexican Pacific that can receive large-scale ships.

“The first-class port infrastructure installed in Lázaro Cárdenas allowed the arrival of the largest ship that has ever docked in any port on the Mexican Pacific, an action that is only possible in first-world maritime terminals, such as those in Shanghai and Busan,” he deepened.

It should be noted that one of the main goals of the Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla administration is to make the entity the new logistics center in North America. Therefore, it seeks to increase the capacity and connectivity of the Port of Lazaro Cardenas.

Among the actions that have been carried out to achieve this, the implementation of the Mexican Pacific Logistics Platform project stands out.

It is also added that this year the twinning between Silao and Lázaro Cárdenas was generated, the purpose is for the port to be the main provider of maritime logistics services for Guanajuato, especially with everything related to the maquila, with the processing of parts and components for sectors with high added value, as well as the aerospace and automotive industries.

At the same time, this week, Sedeco Michoacán and the logistics company APM Terminals Lazaro Cardenas They signed a letter of intent to trigger a supply chain in the entity.

“Sedeco meets the provisions of the Comprehensive Development Plan for Michoacán, which mandates it to generate strategic alliances between the government and companies from different sectors to strengthen productivity and trigger the development of the area,” the agency deepened.
