Lions head coach Dan Campbell announced the decision Monday, which followed the team’s 37-30 win over Green Bay at the end of the season, which secured the second overall pick in the NFL Draft from this year.

“I wish him the best,” Campbell said of Lynn. “He has been a true professional. He went out of his way and gave us everything he had. So, I appreciate him for that. “

Lynn, 53, joined the Lions after four seasons as the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. However, after the Lions started the season 0-8, Campbell took over from Lynn’s play.

“This is the best for both of us,” said Campbell, who led the team to a 3-13-1 record in his first season. “Look, he came here, he took a leap of faith with us under the impression that he would be directing the plays and therefore not going in that direction. Again, that’s not fair to him either. “

Campbell did not say if he would continue to call plays next season or if he expected any other changes in his personnel.

The pistons grab Bol

The Detroit Pistons acquired center Bol Bol from the Denver Nuggets on Monday in exchange for guard Rodney McGruder and a reported second round in the 2020 NBA Draft that was acquired from Brooklyn.

Bol, 7-foot-2, the son of former NBA player Manute Bol, had seen little action with the Nuggets since he was selected in the second round of the 2019 NBA Draft.

Bol, 22, has appeared in just 328 minutes in 53 games in Denver, but he will have a chance to play a bigger role in Detroit.

Bol is a restricted free agent after this season, giving the Pistons time to evaluate him and see if he fits into the team’s future plans.

Playing on a one-year contract, the 30-year-old McGruder appeared in 17 games this season and averaged 2.5 points and 1.6 rebounds.

Red wing injuries

Detroit Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill said Monday he was unsure of the status of forward Dylan Larkin and Tyler Bertuzzi before Tuesday’s game in San Jose against the Sharks.

Larkin abandoned Sunday’s 4-3 road loss to the Anaheim Ducks with an upper body injury in the first period.

“He’s going through some additional evaluations,” Blashill said after Monday’s optional skating. “Right now, I can’t tell if it’s day to day or something (more) than that.”

Bertuzzi’s arm was cut off during overtime and he immediately skidded off the ice.

“He didn’t skate (Monday), so after the pregame skating (Tuesday) I’ll have a better feeling,” Blashill said.
